As well as being superb street trees, jacarandas look stunning on their own as a specimen tree in an open lawn, where their fallen flowers form a colourful carpet of blue. Jacaranda foliage turns a lovely golden yellow colour in winter, slowly drops those leaves before bursting into bloom in late spring around November. Dark green foliage then appears straight from flowering, providing shade all through the warmer months. They are a great shade tree with lovely large canopies. Some people consider them to be very ‘messy’, so plant in an area where the leaf drop won’t be a problem. They are tough & hardy, and like a full sun position.
